MALATYA TURGUT OZAL UNIVERSITY MASTERPLAN & FACULTIES
a new university campus in Eastern Anatolia
Malatya Turgut Ozal University, 2018
Turgut Ozal University (TOU) is a fresh and young higher education institution founded in Malatya, one of the most dense urban centers in the Eastern Anatolia Region. The scope of the design work for TOU covers the development and phasing of the masterplan, conceptual design and construction documentation of several faculties, and the repurposing an incomplete reinforced concrete structure on site as the rectorate building.
The site reserved for the campus development lies across a dam lake that defines the western boundary of the city of Malatya. The site houses a previously abandoned incomplete reinforced concrete structure, which is incorporated into the design as the rectorate building.
The masterplan divides the site into functional zones connected by a linear pedestrian promenade. The structures are positioned to take advantage of daylight and prevailing wind conditions. A perimeter road ensures vehicular flow and proper service access for the buildings.
The first phase of the construction works covered two faculty buildings, and atelier building and the rehabilitation of the abandoned structure as the new rectorate building.
