The project emphasizes the importance of public engagement in the near future. One half of the building program is reserved for public-use functions, which are dispersed throughout a public promenade climbing the building. All important terraces and open air functions are positioned to face the common cultural axis shared with the museum, eventually becoming a part of this cultural landmark for Adana.

 

An equally challenging design problem is the hot-humid climate in the city. By virtue of careful adjustments on the building mass, takes advantage of prevailing winds in the NE-SW axis to cool the building down. In addition, an evaporation pool in the central courtyard supports natural cooling by producing a stack effect in the inner facades of the complex.

 

The facade is clad with vertical timber elements that can be adjusted according to potential heat loads without extra efforts. The public promenade occasionally wraps around facades or pierces the cladding to reach the interior courtyard, and provides an open-air alternative to the indoor circulation axes.

 

Overall, Adana Chamber of Commerce HQ is planned as a local building that conforms to site forces, but it is also a new type of social-office building that will alter users' perception of public buildings in Adana.
