prioritizing security in a dynamic context

Hotel Kandahar, 2011

The project features a multi-function program in a developing context with limited infrastructure. The building houses accomodation units and recreational functions. For ease of operation and safety reasons, the lower floors containing the social functions feature a double axes setback from the outer facade. The accomodation units are located on top of this layer. The facades are designed so as to form a “secure” monolith, opening to the outside via voids distributed over a tartan grid.
